The Cost

In Luke 14 Jesus said don't even begin to be my disciple until you are willing to give up everything. If you are not willing to give up everything, you run the risk of only building a foundation that you will never build a building on and everyone will laugh at you. "They will say, 'There is the person who started that building and couldn't finish it.'" Luke 14:30

"But don't begin until you count the cost." Luke 14: 28

If a king determines he can not defeat the enemy with his count, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away. Are you sending a delegation or giving up everything? The enemy is near.

Do you have other things to attend to? Did you start out as salt but lost your flavor? Do you love your father and mother, your spouse and children, and yes, even your own life more by comparison?

"Come, the banquet is ready."

Hmm, I remember dealing with this issue before I started leading bible study. I think this is an on-going test. We can still become complacent even though we started out by giving everything up for Jesus.
